Thessaly returns in this week’s The Sandman Universe: Nightmare Country #6. The fan-favorite character makes a quick appearance before setting off on a new adventure. She returns later this year in the upcoming Dead Boy Detectives spinoff.
Thessaly Returns
The Sandman Universe: Nightmare Country #6 comes from writer James Tynion IV and artist Maria Llovet. The issue begins with the introduction of Jamie. Jamie is an up-and-coming writer tasked with writing a film adaptation of a real-life murder case. While Jamie is not too enthused at the task, his world is about to be shaken up.
It turns out his neighbor is none other than Thessaly herself. Fans of the series will recognize her. The beloved character notices something off with Jamie, although it appears they don’t have a close relationship. Wasting no time, Thessaly returns to readers’ pages by introducing herself to Jamie under the pseudonym Lamia. She then invites him over for tea.
After some conversation, Thessaly casts a spell allowing Jamie to talk to the dead to help with his writing. However, things don’t go as planned, and Jamie is soon terrorized by horrific images that lead to his death. Thessaly remarks that something has noticed her and her meddling. The issue ends with Thessaly vowing to face whatever force is coming for her. Then, a knock at the door closes out the panel.
Her Story Is Just Getting Started
Per CBR, a new six-issue series called The Sandman Universe: Dead Boy Detectives is set for release in December. This series, from writer Pornsak Pichetshote and artist Jeff Stokely, continues Thessaly’s story. Officially, it follows dead best friends Charles Rowland and Edwin Paine as they solve mysteries. However, an investigation into a missing Thai American girl leads to some horrific and bloodthirsty spirits. Not to mention the fact that the two boys feel as if they are growing apart.
Hot on the heels of the two boys’ investigation is Thessaly. She finds herself hostage to some dangerous magics. However, she is not going to take a threat on her life lying down!
