Epic Games confirms that the Fortnite World Cup and other competition events will not happen in-person during 2021.
Epic was strictly clear on its stance of postponing all in-person events. In a statement posted by the Fortnite team, they further stated that point:
It is important to note that Epic is not looking for this to be a continued trend, “We will continue to provide online competitions throughout 2021 with the hopes that physical events, in some form, can return at some point in the future.” Fortunately, this tells us that there will still be tournaments held in 2021 online.
Fortnite’s Growing Popularity
For those of you who may have thought that Fortnite’s popularity was waning, think again. The Fortnite Galactus event earlier this week, which concluded their latest season, set new records for the game. According to the game’s official website, it’s the biggest live event the game has ever had, with 15.3 million players joining forces to fight Galactus in-game. There were also 3.4 million people watching on YouTube Gaming and Twitch. Twitch reported a peak of 1.5 million viewers in the Fortnite category.
