Just a couple of days ago, on December 1, we got our first Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 trailer for the movie releasing next year. The trailer, however, isn’t like past ones for this franchise…instead, this one was very emotional, showing us that, being the last Guardians movie, it will probably be going out with a painful bang. This movie will be James Gunn’s final of the space team…and might be some of his last work with Marvel as he is going on to direct more DC movies. Gunn has expressed that this movie will change the Guardians team forever…which only hints at the fact even more that one of them might die. The trailer also shows us some of the first moments in the wake of the sad events from Avengers: Endgame.
The Darker Meaning Of “We Are Groot”
After just having the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, many fans weren’t expecting to have such a deep and emotional setup for the third and final movie. Family and friendship are key parts of the Guardians…even more so after having The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special revealing that Mantis and Star-Lord are sister and brother. After the very first Guardians of the Galaxy movie, we saw Groot say to the group, “we are Groot,” but now we are learning the much deeper meaning behind it in the third trailer.
The first time Groot ever used this saying was in the first movie when he sacrificed himself to save his friends. During Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Groot is screaming, “we are Groot” in a quick scene in the trailer…which shows him and Peter back-to-back shooting what we believe to be enemies. At this moment, we can’t help but believe and feel led to believe that someone died or was dying in this scene.
It has been made known that James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 would be extremely focused on Rocket…who is his favorite character. The talking raccoon would finally be getting a more backstory and origin story…and some fans are already wondering if Rocket could die in this movie. This could be Rocket’s final battle in the MCU. James Gunns has gone on to confirm that this final Guardians movie would change the team forever. Guardians Of The Galaxy Volume 3 is set to release May 5, 2023, and we will be able to see what happens to our favorite Guardians…which might just be heartbreaking.
