Fans can rejoice that finally The Witcher Season 2 official trailer has been released. The first critically acclaimed season of The Witcher appeared on Netflix in December of 2019. This is almost two full years before the second season will arrive. Due to filming schedules and current events, it is no secret why the second season has taken so long to materialize, but fans will be excited to witness Geralt of Rivia’s new adventures.

The Witcher is based on a book of fantasy novels penned by Andrzej Sapkowski. The books follow monster fighter Geralt as he travels the Continent looking for coin. He has mutations and enhanced abilities that allow him to be a great fighter, but the Continent is prejudiced towards Witchers and he must also contend with being an outcast. Sapkowski hails from Poland and the creatures from his tales are all inspired by Polish lore. The Witcher books also spawned a series of highly popular games. The Witcher showrunner Lauren Schmidt maintains that the show’s plot is based on the books and not Witcher III, the most popular of The Witcher games.

When season one of The Witcher left off, Geralt and Princess Cirilla had finally found each other after a season of twists and turns. Geralt agrees to shelter her as she is on the run from religious fanatics from Nilfgaard. What is most troubling is after sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg helped defend the Continent from the Nilfgaard force, she went missing. Fans hope to see all their favorites return for the new season.

The Witcher Trailer

The Witcher Season 2 appears to pick up where the last season left off. Geralt is taking Ciri to Kaer Morhen where he was trained as a Witcher. In the meantime, there are new creatures to fight as well as the conflict with Nilfgaard still raging. Yennefer has been imprisoned alongside Fringilla, who was the mage to Nilfgaard.

They are not the only friends that will be returning. Fans may rejoice to see the return of Geralt’s friend Jaskier. Jaskier was last seen when Geralt exiled him from his life. It appears that the bard has seen better days. Geralt goes to rescue him from a jail cell. Jaskier is now sporting a long-haired look and talking to the mice he shares a cell with. Geralt along with Jaskier will return in The Witcher season 2, releasing on Netflix on December 17.
