CD Projekt has confirmed today via Twitter that The Witcher Wild Hunt version they had planned to release for next-gen consoles was delayed indefinitely. The decision came after the developers made a decision that moved the development of the long-awaited game in-house and away from Saber Interactive.
We have decided to have our in-house development team conduct the remaining work on the next-gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. We are currently evaluating the scope of work to be done and thus have to postpone Q2 release until further notice. 1/2

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was and still is a fan favorite, so the news that they were going to release an enhanced version on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, was music to the ears of fans everywhere. In this version, they planned to include the base version of the game in addition to those epic DLC packs that almost seemed better than the game itself. The next-gen console versions of The Witcher Wild Hunt were initially announced in September 2020, with CD Projekt promising to deliver ray-tracing and faster loading times – man, could we have used them a few years ago.
Why Has the Next-Gen Version of The Witcher Wild Hunt Been Delayed Then?
Well, to be honest, not much has been said when it comes to the enhanced versions since that announcement. CD Projekt themselves have barely spoken about the project unless it included the word ‘delay.’ The developers have also been side-tracked by the problems that have come with Cyberpunk 2077 since that was released a year ago. Currently, it seems they have decided to concentrate on fixing any issues that have appeared with that game before moving on to other projects, which is understandable.
As you are probably aware, the last announcement regarding a delay for The Witcher Wild Hunt came back in October last year, when CD Projekt told people that because of “certain recommendations,” they would be delaying it until Q2 2022. But now the goalposts have moved once again, so who knows what date the game will be rescheduled to.
