Jensen Ackles’s The Winchesters receives bad news from CW…the new prequel to Supernatural has only been out for a month, having four episodes to its first season so far, and it’s already gotten some bad news. Although, Jensen Ackles, an executive producer, has been hyping fans up despite the news from CW.
Over the past year, many CW shows have been canceled that fans were looking forward to. A lot of the changes and unknown future going forward are because CW has new owners, Nexstar. This week we learned that the network is not going to be moving forward with backorders for the series The Winchesters or Jared Padalecki’s newest role series Walker prequel, Walker: Independence. However, we can keep hope that just maybe they can see get signed for another season to keep Supernatural‘s legacy alive. The Winchesters will be continuing for their 13 episodes until the end of season 1.
Jensen Ackles Hypes Up Fans For The Winchesters
Jensen Ackles is behind the CW show, The Winchesters, after working on this project with his wife during the COVID-19 quarantine. Ackles played Dean Winchester in the 15 seasons long-running show Supernatural, now being an EP on the prequel show. Not only that, but he has also returned as a recorded voiceover from his role in Dean Winchester’s POV. Ackles hasn’t taken to Twitter for a premiere episode of The Winchesters since the first episode back in August, but for the fourth episode, he took to the platform to live tweet with fans.
Quite honestly, the gap between live tweets makes it more memorable because not only did Ackles know about the news, it shows just how much this franchise means to this actor. Ackles live-tweeted for an hour. While it was only a few tweets but it still got fans excited and interacting with his tweets.

There’s Still Hope For The Winchesters Season 2
There won’t be any backorders for the series, however, that doesn’t mean The Winchesters will get canceled after season 1 either, but yes, it is concerning. CW recently announced a bunch of other cancellations, like Nancy Drew and DC’s Stargirl after their upcoming seasons finish, as well as Riverdale and The Flash coming to an end in 2023 as well. Around the same time, these were canceled, and The Winchesters and Walker Independence were picked up for a plot order.
There will only be 13 episodes in season 1 of The Winchesters. However, Supernatural fans can look forward to cameos throughout those episodes, like Gil McKinney returning to his role as Henry Winchester in the series episode 7. There could also be more Supernatural characters coming into the mix, but it is unknown when or who those might be. Although, we do believe still that Jared Padalecki won’t be returning for a cameo, unfortunately.
