A Wayward Glance

From indie developer, GATO STUDIO comes a new time-traveling adventure that will set players on a magic-filled quest in The Waylanders. Set within the Celtic and Medieval eras, you play as a wanderer who is unbounded by time and fate as they switch between worlds and the dire consequences they can potentially generate. Although a flythrough video is only available to see what The Waylanders has to offer thus far, it’s a fairly decent glimpse into the world that the developers are creating for a work in progress.

The preview footage features landscape and level design for the Celtic Age, providing an in-depth look and feel into just part of the experience that players will venture into. Rather than giving focus on its companion, quest, and character customization aspects, the trailer merely shows what some of the Celtic world holds for players to soon delve into.

Featured lands include the coastal city of Brigantia, a place of trade and commerce; Dumbriga, a study haven to practice magic; the underground network of the Mourian Underworld; and the Goblin-inhabited seaside town of Aunes.

Various aspects of the Celtic age make a fantasy-esque appearance in the trailer. Played along with soft background music to set the soft tone of the flythrough peek, we’re given a grand taste of the Celtic land: sun-draped atmospheres coated with green land and trees; peaceful waterfalls atop occupied villages; and epic gates of light that only add to the fantastical factor of The Waylanders.

Written collectively by Emily Grace Buck (Batman: The Telltale Series, Batman: The Enemy Within), Chris Avellone (Fallout: New Vegas, Prey), and Mike Laidlaw (Dragon Age series), The Waylanders will feature a classic party-based RPG virtual escapade that takes similar cues from Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and the Baldur’s Gate titles. Music will be provided by award-winning composer Inon Zur, known for his original work on Fallout 3 and Dragon Age: Origins.

The Waylanders is coming to Steam Early Access this summer, as more news and reveals will be shared by the developers along the way.
