The Walking Dead is heading towards its eleventh and final season. The extended 24-episode season will cover the Commonwealth storyline as told in the comics. After the season 10 finale, “Here’s Negan,” aired, AMC has confirmed the premiere date for the final batch of episodes. Moreover, they also released a short teaser that illustrates the terrors awaiting in the new community.
The Walking Dead will air its final season on Sunday, August 22, 2021. Presumably, fans who are AMC+ subscribers will be able to watch the new episodes one week early. Interestingly, this is a slightly earlier release date than usual. As well as a premiere date, we were also given a teaser showing off the Commonwealth. This new community, as previously hinted, will play a huge role in season 11. In the teaser, we hear a soldier questioning Eugene about why exactly he came to their community. However, instead of asking simple questions, things get very personal. Sadly, there’s not much to see. We see a few ominous clips of a subway station, a cake, and a courtroom.
Season 11 comes after its previous season aired six additional episodes, which unfortunately proved divisive among the fanbase. In fact, its penultimate episode, “Diverged,” is now the worst-rated episode in the entire series. Currently, on IMDb, it scores just 4.1/10. Thankfully, it’s not all bad. The latest episode, “Here’s Negan,” an origin story for the iconic villain, was a massive success. Of course, filming for these additional episodes wasn’t helped by tight lockdown restrictions. Therefore, the writers notably made more character-centric episodes, which unfortunately made them lack in action.
Before season 11 hits our screens, we’ll get to watch the second half of spinoff Fear the Walking Dead. AMC+ subscribers can already watch the season 6B premiere. For everyone else, the episode airs on Sunday, April 11.
