A four-minute-long trailer for The Walking Dead season 10 released during San Diego Comic-Con today.
The trailer is filled with new information and teases. Some of the standouts include an intense battle on a beach, a new relationship for Michonne, Negan helping the community fight, Carol and Daryl running off together, and a showdown between The Whisperers and the main group.
The most ominous scene comes at the very end. It shows Michonne holding Lucille, Negan’s bat, downward at the camera. It calls back to Negan’s infamous introduction into the show.
Prior to Comic-Con, AMC showcased the first image from The Walking Dead season 10. It features Michonne, Danai Gurira, standing above some walkers with fire in the background. She is probably about to incapacitate them with her katana.
When the image released, showrunner Angela Kang discussed the use of fire for season 10 with EW.
The finale of season nine, “The Storm”, had our few remaining survivors navigating an ice storm. It looks like The Walking Dead will continue to explore different natural elements in the upcoming season. A forest fire could easily spread in this apocalyptic world, a new threat for the characters.
One also can’t ignore that Michonne takes center stage in the first official image. It will be a big season for the fan-favorite character because Gurira will be leaving the show. The Walking Dead continues to lose its most prominent characters. After this season, Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) and Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) will be the last long-running characters remaining.
Gurira talked about her departure during the Comic-Con panel.
That doesn’t stop The Walking Dead. It seems like nothing will. The comics, of which the show is based, ended after 16 years with issue 193. The AMC era, on the other hand, plans to keep going. There are three movies about Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and a spin-off featuring young survivors in the works.
