Many cartoon shows go down as some of the best content TV has to offer, and even fewer go on for incredibly long runs. The few I know that are still kicking mainly include kid’s shows like Spongebob Squarepants, but there are a few adult-centered ones still around. One of the few is The Venture Bros, a classic among more mature audiences. I may only know the show from its short appearance in Poker Night 2, but the show is infamous. Despite that infamy, this may be the last we see of the show. The Venture Bros has been canceled by Adult Swim, following a lengthy 17-year run. Christopher McCulloch, also known as Jackson Publick, announced the news on social media.

Unfortunately, it’s true: #VentureBros has been canceled. We got the highly disappointing news a few months ago, while we were writing what would have been season 8. We thank you, our amazing fans, for 17 years of your kind (and patient) attention. And, as always, We Love You.

The Venture Bros follows the Venture family, made of brothers Dean and Hank, father rusty, and bodyguard Brock Sampson. The show had the family taking on supervillains such as The Monarch and Dr. Girlfriend, taking a more satirical approach to the conflict. At the time, the show was heralded for its unique tone and subversion of expectations, proving very enjoyable for audiences. Since the pilot episode aired in 2003, the show has gone on to air eight seasons over 17 years, amassing a huge cult following.

James Urbaniak, the voice actor for father Thaddeus “Rusty” Venture, had the following to say:

This may very well be the end of The Venture Bros as we know it. Thankfully though, there is a slight glimmer of hope. Variety reports that Adult Swim is in talks with McCulloch and co-writer Doc Hammer on a possible way to continue the series. Whether this is through another network on streaming service is unknown, let alone if it makes it to other places. Regardless, I’d love to hear your thoughts on the cancelation.
