The Thunderbolts has been the talk of the town lately as Marvel has announced more details about the cast and the overall film. One thing that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has revealed is how different the Thunderbolts and the Avengers…the Thunderbolts won’t be as cool as the Avengers. The Thunderbolts won’t be getting their first movie until sometime in 2024, so everything is still very early in the planning. In the new Black Panther movie, actor Julia Louis-Dreyfus makes an appearance as Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. Her role in Wakanda Forever was a big hint as to who would be hiring the Thunderbolts…which seems to be the American government, which will change a lot of how this team will differ from the Avengers team.
More About The Thunderbolts vs. The Avengers
A lot like Nick Fury, Valentina is assembling her own superhero team, which we saw a bit of in Black Widow and Falcon and the Winter Soldier, however, she has a different outlook than Fury. Nick Fury had a more idealistic look on the team of superheroes that protected the whole world, ensuring the safety of everyone in it. Fury wanted the Avengers to be employed by the United Nations. The hint in Wakanda Forever shows that Valentia sees the Thunderbolts being a team that can protect American interests.
Marvel’s Thunderbolts probably be sent on black op-type missions that will protect only American interests. This has been teased in the MCU since Tony Stark, played by Robert Downey Jr., used his super-powered suit to fight the Taliban in Afghanistan. During movies later in time, like Civil War, the idea of the Avengers working for political interests was a very bad thing, Captain America being one to stand against it as well. This is what led Steve Rogers and Tony Stark to then be turned against one another throughout the whole movie.
Marvel’s the Thunderbolts is a team of anti-heroes, including people like Bucky Barnes’ The Winter Soldier…the comic book version of the team even had The Punisher…but we are unsure if Jon Berthnal will make an appearance as Frank castle for this movie. So from the teases so far, the team will be working for the cause of more American-based interest. The Thunderbolts film will be the last film before the Fantastic Four starts MCU’s Phase 6. Very interesting times are ahead as The Thunderbolts won’t be as cool as The Avengers.
