Microsoft released it’s technology explanation demonstration footage from the Consumer Electronics Show, and it briefly explains how Kinect uses the facial mapping technology to output facial movements to the Xbox 360. The “facial mesh” is able to map the users head movements, lip movements, eyebrow movements to create animated representation output to Xbox Live games.
Avatar Kinect was one of Microsoft’s big announcements for the show, and it was announced to be coming to Xbox Live Gold sometime in the Spring through a system update. The video below demonstrates the technology in action.
