It is no surprise that we’ve been hearing snippets about the soon-to-be-released console, the PlayStation 5. There’s been a lot of talk about leaks and theories about different technologies and games that this console will offer. Recently, however, Sony made a press release regarding the details of the PS5 and while it has confirmed some information, it has also given us some new details to consider.

Originally Sony said that they intended to release the details regarding the PlayStation 5 at their GDC event. However, with the endless coronavirus warnings, they opted for a live stream instead. There were plenty of interesting tidbits revealed in this hour-long presentation, find out the details below.

Other Fun Specs

Sony has confirmed that the PS5 will have backward compatibility, which is a PlayStation first. So, heads up everyone, all of those exciting new PS4 games coming out this year will be playable on this new console.

Another fun tidbit is that we now know who Adshir, the developer of LocalRay software, meant when they said that they working with console developers to create a console that used their ray-tracing technologies for their graphics. You can read about LocalRay here.

The PlayStation 5 is slated to be a firm contender for next-gen consoles, although there’s still a lot we don’t know about the competition, like the Xbox Series X. Still, the specifications relayed in this presentation do present some interesting options for the future of console gaming. At the time of the first release of the PS5’s details, they were actually faster than current PCs. This has changed with the release of newer PCs, but the fact that a console could beat a PC at the time of the first announcement was unprecedented. This leaves us all with some hope about the future of console gaming.
