The Secret Life of Pets hit theaters in 2016 and was a huge success grossing $875 million at the box-office. With figures like that, it’s no real surprise that a sequel was quickly announced.

We’ve known The Secret Life of Pets 2 was coming since Universal Pictures and Illumination announced it back in August 2016. With the new movie releasing in June, it’s about time we got a trailer.

And here it is:

It looks over the top. It looks silly. It looks great. Everything we’ve come to expect from Despicable Me creators Illumination.

The continuing adventures of Max the Jack Russell will be voiced by Patton Oswalt, who took over the role from Louis CK after CK admitted to sexual misconduct with 5 women.

Returning voice actors include Kevin Hart as Snowball the rabbit, Hannibal Buress as Buddy and Dana Carvey as Pop, an elderly basset hound. New to the sequel is Harrison Ford, who will play Welsh sheepdog Rooster in what will be his first voice-over role at the age of 76. Side note: I still can’t believe he’s 76 and what’s even harder to believe is Harrison donning his fedora for Indiana Jones 5 in 2021. He’ll be nearly 80!

Getting back on track, The Secret Lifes of Pets 2 is shaping up to be a nice little movie for all the family. The kids will obviously love it, just look at the trailer, and adults will be able to appreciate some of the jokes younger members of the audience won’t understand, as is par for the course for these types of movies.

With not long to go until the release date. The trailer doesn’t give too much away. Which is not a bad thing, even if the story isn’t the integral part of the movie. I’m sure both pets and humans alike will have fun watching it and why not rewatch the first in celebration of National Pet Day (which, coincidently, is today).

The Secret Life of Pets 2 will release on June 7th.
