Once their relationship blossomed into romance, they sealed the deal by tying the knot in 1997. In 2006, the couple became first-time parents, welcoming their twins, Bronwyn Golden and Slater Josiah. Angela Bassett and Courtney Vance told People on the red carpet that their love pattern has involved sacrifices in both parts. Vance noted:
