With less than two months until its theatrical premiere, Disney and Pixar have launched the second official trailer for Lightyear. The new footage dives more into Buzz Lightyear’s story, including the cause and effects of his hyperspace mission. Additionally, we’ll see more of the supporting cast in action as they team up to fight an alien race.

After a lengthy study period where hyperspace technology is being experimented with, pilot Buzz Lightyear is ready for lift-off. This risky mission is being led by Hawthrone of Star Command, and it’s up to Buzz to test out the ropes. But once he does, he finds himself many years into the future, where Emperor Zurg threatens the good of the universe. Now, he must join a new team, assembled by the granddaughter of Hawthrone, to take down Zurg. But will Buzz make it out alive? The second trailer provides a solid blend of sci-fi action and chuckle-worthy humor, with Buzz interacting with his fantastic cast of characters. In the supporting cast, we have Keke Palmer, Dale Soules, Taika Waititi, Peter Sohn, Uzo Aduba, Efren Ramirez, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Mary McDonald, and James Brolin. The animated film’s production is being helmed by Angus MacLane, a long-time Pixar employee making his directorial debut with Lightyear.
Lightyear follows the story of Buzz Lightyear, the Space Ranger that inspired the famous toy of the same name in the Toy Story franchise. Audiences will be going to space with the “real” Buzz Lightyear when it finally hits theaters on June 17th, 2022.
