Take Two has no plans to wind down support for GTA V.
The arrival of Red Dead Redemption 2 does not mean the end of content releases for Grand Theft Auto V. Rockstar Games has been pretty consistent with the amount of content they pushed out to Grand Theft Auto since launch and that looks like it’s going to continue for the foreseeable future. Take Two CEO Strauss Zelnick revealed that Rockstar Games has plans to continue releasing GTA online content on a regular cadence.
Speaking with Business Insider, Zelnick explains that there’s plenty more to come for GTA online. Exactly what this content will be was not revealed by the CEO. Grand Theft Auto V has seen extraordinary success and that success warrants continued support it appears. Recent updates for Grand Theft Auto Online have consisted of content big and small, whether that has been new weapons and vehicles or new game modes like the latest “Afterhours” update.
Grand Theft Auto V is one of the top selling games of all time and it’s quite uncommon for a game to stick around for as long as GTA V has, of course making boatloads of cash doesn’t hurt the situation. The company has seen massive success with both the sale of GTA V and microtransactions sold within GTA online. Regardless, if you thought GTA online in Grand Theft Auto 5 would start to see a slowdown in content you’d be wrong.
Rockstar has taken a unconventional approach to releasing downloadable content for Grand Theft Auto V. Where they used to release premium story-based DLC for previous games in the series, with GTA V they’ve moved to a free update model which has proved to keep the game relevant for longer.
Whichever business model they choose to use following the release of Red Dead Redemption 2, it looks like both games will be getting plenty of support from Rockstar in the future.
