Good news to PlayStation fans, Sony has officially announced the PS5 shortage is over! The company’s gaming boss, Jim Ryan, said the good news on Wednesday is that Sony has now sold 30 million PS5s worldwide and that December 2022 was the “biggest month ever” for sales on the consoles.

The PS5 Shortage Is Officially Over! Time To Buy!

The console was first released in November 2020. Still, hardly anyone was able to get it due to the product being overbought, and then a semiconductor ship shortage happened due to the many shortages of 2020. This made Sony’s production of the PS5 gaming console very limited. In order to get a PS5 back when they released, it was basically a game of luck, being at a drop or restock and just hoping to click the buttons fast enough. It took until August 2022 before the console was “almost easy to buy,” and many people were actually able to get them.

During a Sony press conference, Ryan shared that supply has improved steadily toward the end of last year, and Sony has announced it passed 25 million units sold in November 2022. They also about five million in December 2022 alone…many people got a special Christmas present under the tree. “We truly appreciate the support and the patience of the PlayStation community as we managed to unprecedented demand amid global challenges over the past two years,” said Ryan.
