Despite a great showing at E3, Sony and the PS4 have yet to declare victory over the Xbox One.  The company’s pre-E3 press conference had attendees and viewers around the world reveling in their consumer friendly announcements, but according to Sony, the battle is long from over.

Sony’s announcements were so big, that many people didn’t even care when it was announced that PS4 users would have to start paying for online multiplayer.  Their lower price point, policy on online check-ins, and used game stance were music to the ears of gamers that are facing a rapidly shifting world, and seemed to be the polar opposite of what Microsoft was selling with the Xbox One.

But it’s far from over.  Sony’s UK boss Fergal Gara thinks that victory will only come with more time.

“Winning is determined by a much longer timescale.  We were very pleased with how our messages went down at E3.  We aim to be the best for gamers, and this was a key step in that direction… We feel we had a good day but there is loads more hard work to do, and we are focused on that.”

Sony made it pretty clear that they are serious about earning back the market share that Microsoft grabbed from them with the Xbox 360.   It’s unclear what announcements they have coming down the line and heading into the PS4 launch, but early pre-orders are indicating that they are sending the right message with the PlayStation 4.  Over the weekend it was calculated that customers were lining up to put money down on the PS4 at a far faster rate than the Xbox One.
