The mass exodus of players from Destiny 2 continued last weekend, as the game saw its lowest-ever population in the endgame PvP mode Trials of the Nine.
According to Destiny Trials Report, just 77,821 Guardians participated in Trials this past weekend, which featured the game mode Countdown on the map The Fortress.
On each individual platform, the situation looks even more bleak. On PC, only 7,488 players participated, compared to 24,163 on Xbox One, and 46,170 on PlayStation 4.
A Google spreadsheet by Redditor “try_to_guess_my_PSN” shows the decline in number form. On the first weekend of Trials back in September, 1,042,859 players participated in the event to earn gear and weapons.
Now, though, it appears that everyone has what Trials has to offer, the PvP is not worth the rewards, or players have simply moved on. It’s most likely a combination of all three, but the latter is most concerning.
Bungie has spent the last few months trying to earn back player interest after a number of missteps have led them away from the big budget FPS, and most recently the developer detailed changes coming to help speed up the flow of PvP from its current slow pace.
With multiple updates scheduled throughout the year, Bungie hopes to bring players back. But a new year is here, and with it comes a whole new bunch of games for players to sink their teeth into. Will the changes be enough to drag players from new titles back to Destiny 2?
