The Plucky Squire, one of the most artistically unique games to be revealed in years, will be making its debut on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch consoles next year after being announced at Devolver Digital’s latest (and rather bizarre) conference. You can see the trailer for the game below.

Pop in and Out of 2D to Save Your Friends

The Plucky Squire, on the surface, may seem like a fairly standard adventure RPG, but trust me when I say it’s anything but. Our hero Jot starts their adventures in a beautifully colored book, taking on foes and completing puzzles as they hop from page to page. When it’s clear you won’t find the answer there though, Jot surprisingly takes a leap out of the book and into the real world, on the hunt for their friends wherever they may be. With 2D mixing with 3D in a very unique blend, The Plucky Squire is sure to be unique on an artistic front if nothing else.

Most importantly to me though is the art is directed by none other than James Turner. Since you likely won’t recognize the name at first glance, James is known best as the art director for Pokemon Sword and Shield alongside creating a hilarious set of art pieces surrounding a business version of Kirby. In case you’re particularly curious about the latter, check it out over on his official Twitter. With his art direction leading this project, I’m sure there’ll be plenty of wonderful surprises to be found throughout this unique adventure.

The Plucky Squire joins a massive repertoire of uniquely wonderful Devolver Digital games such as Cult of the Lamb and Anger Foot, which were also revealed during today’s Devolver showcase. If you’d like to see the full showcase for yourself, take a look here.
