Publisher Annapurna Interactive and developer Giant Squid are giving The Pathless two physical releases. The upcoming indie action-adventure game follows the nameless Hunter as she attempts to save a cursed island. Armed only with a bow & arrow and an eagle companion, you will fight corrupted spirits and solve ancient puzzles.

Most indie games receive physical releases only after garnering acclaim. In this case though, the high reception of Giant Squid’s first game, 2016’s Abzu, likely played a part in The Pathless getting one early. The first physical edition will be available at various retailers via Skybound Games for $39.99 and comes with six art cards. The second physical edition is an iam8bit exclusive for $52.99. In addition to the art cards, it also includes a poster and reversible exclusive cover art designed by Emmy winner Elaine Lee. Both physical editions are available for preorder now but will launch on December 8. However, these versions are only available for the PlayStation 5.

More On The Pathless

It isn’t just the game that’s getting a special release. Additionally, iam8bit will be releasing the game’s soundtrack on vinyl. It will include a 2 xLP gatefold jacket, “cleansed blue” and “cursed red” vinyl, and artwork again by Elaine Lee. Grammy-nominated Austin Wintory (Journey, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate) has reunited with Giant Squid after composing the score for Abzu. While the vinyl is currently up for preorder, it won’t ship until Q1 2021.

The PS5 version of The Pathless seems like it will be the definitive version. Giant Squid recently held a demo presentation that showcased the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback and how it ties into the game’s mechanics. Given the game’s focus on archery and timing of shots, the controller’s triggers will only enhance the experience.

The Pathless launches on November 12, 2020, for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC via the Epic Games Store and Apple Arcade. Players who purchase the game digitally on the PS5 can download the PS4 version at no extra cost.
