The Outer Worlds has received high critical acclaim from the majority of critics. Mainly they cited the similarities to Fallout while building on that foundation. With the game being thirty hours though (when fully completing), there are no doubt players are itching to return to Halcyon. It appears that Obsidian Entertainment, the developers of the game, have heard that request. According to a forum post made by the game’s Social Media Manager, The Outer Worlds will receive story DLC at some point next year.

Within the forum post, manager Shyla gave thanks to the community and the incredible team behind The Outer Worlds. They discussed the nominations for Best Narrative, Best Performance – Ashly Burch, Best RPG, and Game of the Year. Congratulations to the team there for being nominated, it’s very well deserved! The team has also thanked the fans for their tremendous support of the game. The key part of that post though is that The Outer Worlds is going to see story DLC in the next year. The details of which unfortunately are not known, but they’ll be given at a later date.

If I had to take a guess, you can likely expect the DLC to look into a story of Halcyon following the events of the game. There’s a lot of room for ideas there so that’s likely where it’ll take place. Of course, though that’s just speculation so take that with a grain of salt.

Either way, fans of the game should have plenty to be excited about. For those of you who haven’t heard of The Outer Worlds, it’s a first-person action RPG developed by Obsidian Entertainment. You’ll most likely know them for creating Fallout: New Vegas, one of the highest regarded Fallout entries. You take control of an unnamed citizen of Halcyon, rescued by the wanted Phineas Welles. You must venture to different planets and help the people in order to save Halcyon from the elusive Board. The game is available on PC (currently the Epic Games Store and Windows Store), Xbox One, PS4, and soon to be Nintendo Switch.
