In a recent interview with Game Informer, co-directors Leonard Boyarsky and Tim Cain have shared some information about how long The Outer Worlds will be.

According to the pair, it’s wrong to expect the game to be a brand new Fallout title as for the size. Instead, it’ll be more like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2.

The game will require 15 to 50 hours to be completed, based on the intel shared by the co-directors, and perhaps will be “maybe a little bit smaller” than Kotor 2.

“People think it’s more of an open-sandbox of a game, like ‘oh, they’re gonna be able to go anywhere on any of the planets’… no…” said Cain.

“People are speculating, like, hundreds of hours of gameplay… and no.”

This was a very specific design choice, because the development team wanted to invest on a replayability component.

Is this the way you expected the game to be, or are you disappointed by reading this? Share your opinion in the comments below.

“We’ve decided to put our effort into the reactivity and replayability—because of our size and budget, those necessitate a smaller, more tightly-controlled game than a giant sandbox open world where you can run everywhere.”
