The Steam page briefly showed a potential release date for August.
The Outer Worlds, Obsidians upcoming RPG, might be arriving on August 6. An update to the games page on Steam added the date before being taken down not long after. Even though it’s no longer there, you can still observe the August 6 date on the SteamDB, where any and all changes to a page are archived for record purposes. As for the main page, it has since been replaced with the tentative 2019.
Obsidian hasn’t made any statement on an official release date, but August 6 doesn’t sound like such a stretch. Despite only being announced at The Game Awards last December, the game has more than likely been in development for quite some time, long before the aforementioned announcement. In addition, this still gives Obsidian plenty of time to finish up any last minute polishing the game needs before it’s released. It would also allow them to formally announce the date at E3 2019, generating some hype right before it launches.
The company is known for their long line of RPG games, such as Fallout: New Vegas and Pillars of Eternity, both of which were critically acclaimed. The Outer Worlds will be the companies last game as an independent developer, as they were purchased by Microsoft in late 2018. Regardless of this, the game is still slated to launch for multiple platforms, which might be another indicator of a closer launch date than we would anticipate as Microsoft probably wants to move on to a first party IP. Either way, The Outer Worlds is looking to be one of the most exciting games of 2019.
The Outer Worlds will launch for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
