Try out something new by resetting your skill and perk points.

You’ve dumped a bunch of skill points into melee, but you no longer wish to swing a hammer around. You need to learn how to respec if you wish to change your skills and perks, and alter your approach in The Outer Worlds.

Respec at the Vocational Competence Respecification Machine on your ship.

Once you have access to the Unreliable you will find the Vocational Competence Respecification Machine on the platform above the workbench, in the cargo hanger. At this machine you can reallocate all spent skill points and perk points, but not attributes. The first time you use the machine it will cost 500 bits, but the price increases with each subsequent use.

Try and wait until you have unlocked a few specialized skills and perks before using the machine to respec then. Not only will you have a better idea how you wish to respec your character, but you’ll save money in the long run. That said, you can’t alter attributes, so be mindful of what you picked in the beginning if you wish to maximize your build. Or, go hog wild; no one is stopping you from putting points into melee if you took Below Average Strength.

Use the respec machine then to either polish your build to a perfect sheen, or to try out a new style of play.

That’s how to respec in The Outer Worlds. So long as you have the bits to do so, there is nothing holding you back from experimenting.
