The Matrix Awakens is the latest video game entry of the Matrix franchise. At The Game Awards 2021, a new clip of Matrix Resurrections was shown alongside a brand new trailer of The Matrix Awakens.

The Matrix Awakens is a playable demo made with Unreal Engine 5. It is currently available for Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, and players can download and enjoy the power of 9th generation consoles. Epic Games was behind the creation of The Matrix Awakens that was shown at The Game Awards, and the company states the game is “the future of storytelling.”

The Matrix Awakens has no connection with the fourth installment of The Matrix movies. Epic Games has a dedicated team with developers and technical artists that produces a demo each year to showcase the innovations of Unreal Engine technology. Last year it was Lumen in the Land of Nanite, and this year they paid tribute to the world of Matrix.

The big difference between this year’s demo and last year is that players can play The Matrix Awakens, unlike Lumen in the Land of Nanite. The Matrix trilogy changes the VFX and CGI of modern films, so the team in Epic Games decided to make a tribute to that by creating the most realistic demo with Wachowski’s permission.

At the trailer’s beginning, Keanu Reeves speaks about what is real and what is not. Apart from this saying being the core of The Matrix series, it also showcases the real power of Unreal Engine 5.

Carrie-Ann Moss joins Reeves as they speak how the digital world is becoming what Matrix predicted. After that, we follow Mr. Andreson and Trinity in a car chase when IO appears and tells them this is her simulation to learn how to fight, and players will take control of her.
