Now over two decades old, the Matrix movie franchise will soon return to the big screen for a fourth installment. Details have been kept under lock and key, but a recent Instagram post reveals the title could be The Matrix: Resurrections.

Directed by Lana Wachowski, the movie sees the return of Neo (Keanu Reeves) and Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss). The title, Resurrections, makes sense since it keeps up the ‘R’ theme present in the sequels’ titles. Of course, The Matrix 2 was called Reloaded and the third Revolutions. In Revolutions, both Neo and Trinity are killed, but now it seems they will both be resurrected, although it’s unclear how the duo will come back to life. Plenty more familiar faces will return, such as Jada Pinkett-Smith (Niobe), Lambert Wilson (The Merovingian), and  Daniel Bernhardt (Agent Johnson). Some new faces will also appear, including Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jessica Henwick, and Priyanka Chopra.

First reported by Yahoo, fans of the franchise quickly snapped screenshots of an Instagram update by one of the hairstylists. The post features a card that reads, “…during these extraordinary times in the making of Matrix Resurrections. Wir lieben euch, Lana & James.” Sounds like it’s just confirmed the title.

As expected, the hairstylist quickly deleted the Instagram post. It’s worth noting that, at the moment, this is just a rumor; therefore should be taken with a pinch of salt. Still, the title checks out. It sounds like a title we pretty much expected. However, it does seem to drop the “The” that’s present in every other Matrix movie title.

The Matrix 4 is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated movies of 2021. Slated to premiere on December 22, it’ll also be one of the final movies of this year. Like many movies coming this year, it will premiere on HBO Max at the same time it enters theatres.
