For a long while now, PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 players have been enjoying the survival of The Long Dark. It offers an intriguing story and premise while giving a unique art style and great survival mechanics. I gave it a go myself and honestly, it’s not bad. If you’re looking for a solid survival adventure, it may just be your thing. For Nintendo Switch users though, the wilderness survival has long eluded them. That is, until today. Announced at the Nintendo Direct Mini today, The Long Dark is now available on Nintendo Switch. It’s normally $34.99 but is on sale for $31.49 at launch. You can watch the launch trailer, shown at the Direct, below.

The Long Dark follows the story of bush pilot Will Mackenzie and Dr. Astrid Greenwood. Their past was filled with the joys of being together, but those times have since past. Many years later, Astrid finds Will once again, but not to rekindle their relationship. She must get to a patient in the remote wilderness of Northern Canada, and there’s only one pilot to do so. As they’re flying though, the world is hit with a geomagnetic disaster of unknown origin. Their plane goes down and the two are separated. As the player, you must follow the story of both characters as they learn to survive in this new world. With wild animals around every corner, no exploration is ever safe.

The story of The Long Dark is divided into episodes, three of which are currently available. Two more are expected to release as part of Season One but are free for all owners of the game. Regardless, the first two episodes provide around 15 hours of content so you shouldn’t be lacking there. For those that finish the story wanting more, there’s also Survival Mode. This mode truly puts your survival skills to the test, having you go as long as possible.

There’s a lot of content on offer for The Long Dark, which makes it a more than worthwhile purchase. Will you be exploring the Canadian wilderness as Astrid and Will? Any favorite survival games on Switch? Let me know, and stay tuned at The Nerd Stash for all your news, reviews, and more!
