The Legend of Zelda Wii U was a no show at E3 last week, though that was all but expected based on what Nintendo had said prior. Since then, many have slammed Nintendo for not showing off the game at all, especially considering we have seen footage in the past. However, Nintendo sees The Legend of Zelda Wii U as a long term plan with plenty of time to show it off in the future.
We first got a glimpse at The Legend of Zelda Wii U at E3 2014 during the Nintendo Digital Event that gave us a short trailer. The game then reappeared during the Video Game Awards 2014 last December with some gameplay footage for the first time.
Nintendo obviously feels very comfortable with their current position and felt they could hold off showing the game this year, which Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime said was a judgment call in a video interview with GameSpot.
“There’ll be plenty of opportunities for us to showcase that game, and certainly, for those of us like myself who’ve seen the game and see how it’s progressing, you know, no fears, it’s gonna be wonderful.”
While it was incredibly disappointing not to see The Legend of Zelda Wii U this year, Fils-Aime does make a very good point. Nintendo has gotten to the point of making announcements and showing off gamers all year through Nintendo Directs and even last year used the Video Game Awards to show off the game.
The Legend of Zelda Wii U likely won’t be out until Holiday Season 2016, so that would leave numerous Nintendo Directs, the Video Game Awards 2015, E3 2015, and any other events that Nintendo might show up at in that time. Let’s just hope that it does not get delayed any further than next year at this point.
