An official title and new trailer have been revealed for the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The sequel will be known as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and it will be officially released exclusively for Nintendo Switch on May 12, 2023.

What We Know About The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

The Nintendo Direct presentation for September 13, 2023, officially revealed new information at the end regarding the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. We can confirm that the game will officially be titled The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and will release on May 12, 2023.

The game was originally announced back during the E3 2019 presentation, and only sparse information regarding the game’s story, features, and mechanics were shared. During the last presentation, producer Eiji Aonuma explained that the game would need a bit more time to develop and pushed it back to a spring 2023 release date from its original late 2022 release window.

The new gameplay seemed to show off more of the features that this game will have, and hint at the course of the story. Nothing was directly explained, but it appears that the game will allow the player to go to and from the sky area of the game and the surface, similar to The Legend of Zelda: Skyward, but via what appears to be a new item resembling a stone bird of some kind that Link can travel on as he descends from the sky.

Link himself also appears to be wearing his champion attire rather than the robes we have seen him wearing in previous trailers, implying that may represent a later point of the game or simply be a new armor set that players can take on and off.

More information on The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is expected to be revealed as we approach the May 12, 2023 release date.
