The HD Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword remake is here and we couldn’t be more excited to be running around the Skyloft again. As you work your way towards mastering the motion controls of Skyward Sword you may realize you have a real need for Monster Claws. With the crafting system in Skyward Sword there’s a huge need for things such as Monster Claws to upgrade your gear. These upgrades will allow you to take on even tougher enemies and generally just make life easier for you. Upgrades are also super important in regards to the Wooden Shield, which can actually break if it sustains too much damage. Here’s what you need to know about finding Monster Claws in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD.
Finding Monster Claws in Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword HD
The following enemies drop Monster Claws in Skyward Sword, all of which are flying opponents besides Walltulas. The best locations in which to find these enemies are listed as well.
- Keese – Skyloft, Waterfall Cave, Faron Woods, Skyview Temple, and the Lanayru Mining Facility
- Guay – Faron Woods and The Sky
- Walltula – Skyview Temple, Faron Woods, and Thunderhead
- Fire Keese – Eldin Volcano
- Thunder Keese – Lanayru Desert
Skyview Temple in particular is a great place to find many of the enemies that drop these materials early in the game. You can start this dungeon and head towards the Bird Statue save point which will allow to teleport out and re-enter, making farming for Monster Claws a breeze.
It should also be noted that the Treasure Medal will help increase the drop rate of Monster Claws, helping you reach your crafting goals more quickly. You can obtain the Treasure Medal by finding a Goddess Cube near the Earth Temple. East of the Temple, in the Bokoblin village, is a tower with a hidden path tucked away near it. Interacting with the Goddess Cube there will unlock a chest that can be reached via Loftwing.

As mentioned earlier, Monster Claws and other Materials are used to craft upgrades for your gear. Here is a list of all the upgrades that require Monster Claws and how many are required for the upgrade.
- Iron Bow – 3 Monster Claws
- Banded Shield – 1 Monster Claw
- Braced Shield – 2 Monster Claws
- Reinforced Shield – 2 Monster Claws
- Fortified Shield – 3 Monster Claws
- Medium Seed Satchel – 3 Monster Claws
- Large Seed Satchel – 3 Monster Claws
