The Last of Us Part II hit a major sales milestone. Eric Lempel, Senior Vice President of PlayStation Worldwide Marketing at SIE, revealed the good news via the PlayStation Blog. Naughty Dog’s highly anticipated sequel sold over 4 million copies within its first three days. This makes it the fastest-selling PS4 exclusive ever. 2018’s Spider-Man from Insomniac previously held the record with 3.3 million copies sold in three days.

In the same blog post, game director Neil Druckmann shared his thanks:

The Last of Us Part II was made possible thanks to the efforts of the hundreds of talented and passionate developers here at Naughty Dog. We can imagine no greater honor than seeing that same passion mirrored by the people playing it. Thank you for helping us reach this amazing milestone.”

The news isn’t all that surprising given how well-received the first game was and that the sequel went Gold in May. But The Last of Us Part II has had a bumpy road to this milestone. Amid story leaks and a troubling expose of crunch culture, the game was also review-bombed on Metacritic right before launch. But this milestone shows that nothing was going to keep passionate players from experiencing it.
