In celebration of The Last of Us Day 2021, the first image from The Last of Us HBO series has been revealed. Naughty Dog, the developers of The Last of Us II, posted a still image from the series on their official Twitter account in commemoration of The Last of Us Day 2021. The post was captioned, “Look for the light @HBO #TLOUDay”. The show stars Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie in the live-action adaptation of the PlayStation exclusive game. In the image from The Last of Us HBO adaptation, the pair can be seen staring at a plane wreck with their backs towards the viewers, concealing their faces.
Meanwhile, Naughty Dog has also gone all out to celebrate The Last of Us Day 2021. Aside from the first look on The Last of Us HBO series, the company also on the official PlayStation blog, made a slew of announcements concerning the events and releases coming. Sr. Manager Communications, Naughty Dog, Rochelle Snyder announced that fans could begin to preorder collections of The Last of Us Part II covers and vinyl records.
“Attention audiophiles and collectors: time to warm up your record players! Working in close collaboration with our friends at Mondo, we’re excited to finally announce pre-orders for The Last of Us Part II: Covers and Rarities vinyl,” the announcement said.
According to Naughty Dog, the EP release was heavily requested by fans. The EP features songs sang by voice actors Ashley Johnson (Ellie) and Troy Baker (Joel), with Chris Rondinella on guitar. Pre-orders began on September 26, at 10 AM PST exclusively on Mondo’s website. Naughty Dog also announced a limited edition 14.25’’ Joel statue from The Last of Us Part II in honor of The Last of Us Day 2021. The figurines were developed in collaboration with Dark Horse Direct. According to the announcement, the heavily detailed statue will be available for pre-order on October 29 at 5 pm on Dark Horse’s website. Shipping will commence in May 2022.
The Last of Us Part II game makers also announced new Merch, available on the PlayStation Gear Store. The merchandise includes a waxed canvas backpack, a Stormtech Waterfall Insulated Rain Jacket, limited edition picks and guitars, and more. There was also a 20% discount awarded for the purchase of all Merch through the PlayStation Gear Store, from now until September 30. “The Last of Us Remastered, The Last of Us: Left Behind and DLC will see a 50% reduction on PlayStation Store through September 27,” the announcement said.
The company also announced the return of Photo Mode for The Last of Us Day 2021, saying they enjoyed the “incredible submissions” from last year’s Photo Mode contest. “Starting today until October 29, we’re kicking off a month of community captures, with different themes each week as we make our way through October. Post your Photo Mode shots to Twitter with the hashtag #TLOUPhotoMode and tag @Naughty_Dog to enter,” the statement read. Naughty Dog promised to post the selected photos from The Last of Us Day 2021 on their Twitter page daily, and maintain a scrapbook of the shots submitted.
