The Last Guardian is a game that is full of mystery. Following in the footsteps of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, the game is simple in its storytelling and world building, leaving the player to figure out a lot of stuff that other games might blatantly explain. This has led to a lot of small questions, with somewhat easy answers. This guide is about one of these. Specifically, what are the blue doors in The Last Guardian.

If you’re like me, as you explored The Last Guardian’s massive castles, you came across these large blue doors. Nothing can open them though, and pointing Trico at them will result in a bit of a shrug. Some players likely already know the answer, as it becomes clear only when you are captured and taken away by the knights.

Yes, the reason you don’t know what the blue doors in The Last Guardian are, is because you haven’t been killed by the knights yet. Whenever they grab you, you can button mash your way out of their grasp. You likely know this already if you haven’t been taken away through one of the blue doors. If you don’t do this, the knight will carry you toward the closest blue door, which will open up as he gets closer. If you or Trico don’t stop him, he will take the boy through the door and you will receive a Game Over screen.

Simple, but it was baffling me, so it likely confused some other people as well. If you keep avoiding the knights the blue doors will never be a problem for you, so now that you know what they are you can rest a bit easier. Of course, as you progress, the odds of getting snatched through one of the doors goes up, especially near the end of the game. Good luck.
