The Golden Joystick Awards are back and are giving gamers a voice to decide what some of their favorite games of the year are. The Golden Joystick is one of the longest video game award ceremonies that are still running, and only second oldest to Arcade Awards. The awards originally began in 1986. Therefore, it has been running for over 30 years now.

You Decide What The Best Games Are

The Golden Joystick Awards is an award ceremony where gamers vote on the best games. It originated in the United Kingdom. However, beginning in 2016, voting was open to anyone by voting online. The awards were mostly PC games focused up until the mainstream success of the Sega Master System. Now the Award ceremony encompasses a variety of games, consoles, and categories.

Some of the Golden Joystick Awards categories players can vote on are the best story design and best game for each console and PC.  However, with a lack of exclusives, the best Nintendo game of the year seems to be the most interesting. The Nintendo category includes some of the higher-rated games like Super Mario Maker 2, Zelda: Link’s Awakening, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, and last year’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Past Winners

Some of the past Golden Joystick award winners include The Last of Us in 2013 for the best newcomer game. In 2015, Bloodborne won the award for the best original game. God of War came up big with numerous awards last year for best storytelling, audio, visual design, and PlayStation game of the year.
