What to Expect from the Game Awards 2022

The Game Awards 2022 will be the 9th annual show of the biggest celebration in the gaming industry. The official Game Awards Twitter account confined the event will live stream for free across the world on more than 40 different digital platforms, including YouTube, Twitch, Twitter, Facebook, and TikTok Live. Last year’s show hit a record-setting 85 million global livestreams.

While gamers can likely expect the same categories from last year’s show, a new category will be joining the club this time around – Best Adaptation. As the name implies, this category will recognize creative work that authentically adapts video games into other media, such as movies, TV shows, podcasts, novels, comic books, and more. It is officially described as follows:

“The Best Adaptation Award is a way for the gaming industry and its fans to tip its hat to creative work that authentically adapts and often adds lore and context to our favorite gaming franchises. With so many game-inspired projects across entertainment, the time is right to honor excellence in adapting video game worlds to other mediums.”

Jim Carrey and Ben Schwartz appeared at last year’s show to premiere the first trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 by Paramount Pictures and help advertise the new category for this year’s show.

IMAX is set to partner with the Game Awards 2022 to create a LIVE community event for cities around the world to experience the show, which will be called The Game Awards: The IMAX Experience, a LIVE community event in cities around the world to experience The Game Awards. More information on this experience will be revealed in the coming months.
