The first trailer for Ghostbusters: Afterlife has arrived! You can check out the full trailer down below:

Ghostbusters: Afterlife will take place in the same universe as the original Ghostbusters movie and its direct sequel. A few actors from the beloved original film are returning such as Bill Murray, Sigourney Weaver, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson. As seen in the trailer, it seems that the film will revolve around the grand-children of Dr. Egon Spengler (who was played by the late Harold Ramis). This new film will star Mckenna Grace (Captain Marvel) and Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) as the two grand-children of Egon. Paul Rudd will play a teacher by the name of Mr. Grooberson and Carrie Coon will play the mother of Grace and Wolfhard’s characters.

This trailer had a completely different tone compared to 2016’s Ghostbusters reboot. Where the 2016 reboot wanted to showcase a fresh take on the Ghostbusters property using comedy, it seems that Afterlife is going for a more serious approach with nostalgic moments littered throughout the film. Only time will tell if this new film will be a huge resurgence for the franchise or possibly the nail in its coffin, much like what happened with Terminator: Dark Fate earlier this year.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife will hit theaters sometime in Summer 2020.
