Dauntless launches today for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the title officially comes out for the PC. As it begins, it becomes the first video game to come to the PlayStation 4 to feature cross-play on day one.

The free-to-place RPG title features players going up against large, mythical creatures as they attempt to conquer them as a team. Because of the team-based aspect, developers Phoenix Labs were entrenched to ensure their title would launch with cross-play capabilities. It was a vital goal the group felt was necessary to the game’s success.

Phoenix Labs developers spoke to IGN about the game requiring access to cross-play.

“When we first started talking about ‘One Dauntless,’ we knew it was a genuinely audacious goal,” Jesse Houston, CEO, and co-founder of Phoenix Labs told IGN. “No one has ever launched on console with full cross-play support from the start, but we believed in our vision and, thankfully, our friends at Epic Games, Sony, and Microsoft did too. Keeping the community connected is one of our top priorities, and with all the new players coming in at launch, there’s never been a better time to be a Slayer in Dauntless.”

Dauntless has been in open beta on the PC since May of 2018, and one year later the title has officially released. For those interested in grabbing the Monster Hunter-like title, you can do so for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC for free. The game’s latest season pass has released, and it’s called the Hidden Blades Hunts Pass. Everyone has access to the free version of the season pass, but you can choose to purchase the Elite Track for 1000 Platinum, the game’s premium currency, or the Elite Track Bundle for 2400.
