Telltale is back and with it, gamers are going to be treated to a new game in the universe of The Expanse. The Expanse is arguably the biggest new sci-fi franchise of recent years and it is ripe for storytelling outside of the hit TV show. Check out the trailer below.
The trailer doesn’t provide much info about the series besides the fact that the game seems to be focused on Camina Drummer, one of the most popular characters from the show. In the show, Drummer has taken on a larger role than in the books. The TV version of Drummer is partly based on the book character but also contains elements of a few other characters who either have little screen time compared to their book counterparts or haven’t appeared at all. Given that the final season of The Expanse starts December 10, a game expanding on TV Drummer’s storyline is a perfect way to capitalize on the popularity of the TV version of the character.
From what is shown in the trailer, Telltale’s new game looks to be a prequel to the TV show. Although the last season of The Expanse is about to start, the show’s creators have hinted that it isn’t the end. Fans were understandably upset at season six being the final season as, in book terms, the show has only covered around five of the ten books so far. The Expanse: A Telltale Series is the first concrete evidence of what the show creators and authors have been hinting at. Although it looks to be a prequel, fans of the show and books will no doubt be elated that there is now confirmation of the TV series continuing in some form.
As for how the show may continue going forward, fans will probably have to wait until the end of the final season to find out.
