Bethesda celebrates the series 25th Anniversary by giving away this all time classic.

Today officially marks the 25th Anniversary of the Elder Scrolls series, and Bethesda found an excellent way to kick off the festivities. Today, and only today, you can claim one of the greatest RPG’s of the early 2000’s on PC for free through Bethesda’s Launcher, and that game is The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. All you have to do is redeem the code TES25TH-MORROWIND to have the game added to your library.

Morrowind is the third installment of the now famous Elder Scrolls franchise, but what a lot of newer fans don’t realize is that if this title didn’t succeed then Bethesda may not even be around today. The first two games in the series, Arena and Daggerfall, did well enough to make a splash in the PC market, but Bethesada still wasn’t making enough to stay afloat and were actually hemorrhaging capital into other unnecessary ventures that went nowhere.

It all came down to Morrowind, and thanks to Todd Howard and company, it was a immediate success and is still considered to be a pioneer in the video game community. The game takes place in the province of Morrowind on the isolated island of Vvardenfell where the Dark Elves dwell. Eventually, events come to pass that the player must contest the land with a immortal known as Dagoth Ur.

While the series would go onto even more critical acclaim with Oblivion and Skyrim, neither of these games would have seen the light of day if not for Morrowind. If, for whatever reason, you have not tried this game yet, now is the best time, as it is available for the low price of $0. As we mention earlier, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind is free for today only on PC through the Bethesda Launcher which you can check out here.
