Netflix’s The Cuphead Show! confirmed its episode count. The show is set to be commissioned for 36 episodes. The count was first speculated by Animation Magazine and then updated once their interview on January 29th concluded.

Like the video game, The Cuphead Show episodes will follow Cuphead and his brother Mugman as they travel their universe. In the same interview, it was also confirmed that certain story arcs would span over multiple episodes. Lastly, producer Dave Wassan confirmed that each episode would run for about 10 and a half to 11 minutes. Regarding the show’s format, Wassan then went on to say,

The animated series is led by brothers Chad and Jared Moldenhauer, who has also worked on the game.

We were originally using the old theoretical shorts was a model for structure. But we found it was hard to stay within a seven minute format. These stories wanted to be a little longer, so it caps off at something like 10 and a half or 11 minutes, though each episode is a little different in running time.

The Talent for Each The Cuphead Show! Episode

The recent trailer for Netflix’s The Cuphead Show! confirmed that the show will stick to the game’s canon tone and slapstick humor. It also appears to be a story-driven series, with each episode working towards a larger goal. Lastly, there will be many familiar faces from the game that are present in the show.

Another merit of the upcoming The Cuphead Show! is the use of live-action backgrounds behind the animation. The brothers then confirmed that the Los Angeles-based company Screen Novelties handled this process. The company was also in charge of some of the stop motion movements in the background as well.

The duo also confirmed that The Cuphead Show episodes are aimed more for a 6-12 age range. However, they hope that the show can reach universal appeal.

The Cuphead Show! will debut on Netflix on February 18th, 2022.
