The Inspiration That Made Ladies Sing The Blues

The Stone that the builder refused is making a comeback. The Boondocks is heading to HBO Max in addition to all four original seasons, it will include two reimagined seasons. Each of the reimagined seasons will consist of 12 episodes. The show will premier with a 50-minute special. The new special is to be released in fall 2020. The original series will be released in spring with the launch of HBO Max.

The Boondocks was an animated series, it was a true master of satire, and a pillar of Black excellence. The series was based on a comic strip by Aaron McGruder, it followed the lives of Hughey and Reilly. The boys were voiced by Regina King and lived with their grandad Robert Freeman voiced by John Wetherspoons. The Boondocks focused on African American Issues, pop culture, and politics. It also featured anime-inspired visuals giving the show a unique look to match its excellent writing.

The Boondocks was also a timeless show and ahead of its time. One episode that is very relevant today followed the trail of R Kelly. With Robert Kelly’s more recent legal issues and controversy coming up in the news. Therefore, showing how in touch The Boondocks really was. The show took a lot of inspiration from real life. There were episodes based on viral sensations such as the “kid that just wants to do hoodrat stuff with his friends,’ and “The Booty Warrior.”

McGruder is Back Too

The Boondocks was heavily praised for its first three seasons. However, the show took a turn for the worst during season four, when head writer and creator Aaron McGruder was replaced. The critics and fans were both disappointed with the writing of season 4. The show went off the air in 2014, after the fourth season. However, McGruder is set to return with the series revival. That comes to no surprise because many of the voice actors have said they will not return to the show without McGruder. Therefore, this return to form will be highly anticipated.

The Boondocks was first teased on Instagram by Charlemagne Tha God in February. Charlemagne posted several new comic strips all written by McGruder with #BoondocksBack in the caption.
