Thanos is gone. Spider-Man is back in the MCU. Everything is well and good except for that Black Widow movie we never got to see. Well, it’s finally here, albeit a bit late. Marvel has moved past its first phase, leaving behind some major heroes but replacing them with new ones. Captain America is gone, but now we have Falcon. Iron Man is gone, but now we have Spider-Man.
To kick off this new phase of heroes, Marvel is celebrating one of the originals. Black Widow, played by Scarlett Johansson, is one of the only original Avengers never to get her own movie. Hawkeye being the other underdog – At least he is getting a Disney Plus series.
It’s finally here: The Black Widow movie. It’s set between the events of Captian America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, and it will dive into Natasha Romanoff’s dark past as a trained assassin. The trailer features the introduction of Romanoff’s sister, the first look at Taskmaster (the movie’s villain), and David Harbour as Red Guardian.
Black Widow first appeared in 2010’s Iron Man. She has been a significant character in the Marvel films but was never the sole focus. Even though fans petitioned for a Black Widow movie, Johansson stated she wanted her character to develop before taking on such an endeavor.
“I don’t think I could have played this version of Natasha 10 years ago,” Johansson said this summer during the Marvel panel at San Diego Comic-Con. “I get to play her as a fully realized woman. I’m looking to wipe out some of the red from my ledger.”
