Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX gives you a lot to choose from when you start the game. With 16 different Pokémon to choose from, you might find yourself struggling with so many options. In this guide, we will run through the various stats of each starter, then talk about how the early game will play out depending on their type.

An important thing to note is that you can play the game just fine with any of the starters, although there will undoubtedly be a difference in how difficult you find it. The easiest Pokémon to play as would be Pikachu. Strong starting stats and being an Electric-type will give Pikachu a solid advantage in the early game, which has a heavy reliance on Flying types for enemies. At the opposite end of the scale, Treecko, Machop, Bulbasaur, and Chikorita would be much hard, due to their type weaknesses.

Most of the other would fall into a middle ground, where their stats or movesets would be fine for the early game, so a roughly medium difficulty playthrough. Below, you will find all the stats of the 16 starters to help you make your decision.

Once you get further into the game, you will have your starter, your buddy, and the various Pokémon that you can recruit so you will be able to build a Rescue Team that will suit each Dungeon you go into. Make sure you are level up at least one Pokémon of each type so that you don’t get caught out with no way to counter strong enemies. And don’t forget to keep an eye our for Shiny Pokemon to add to your teams as well, so you can show off when you go to rescue other Pokémon.
