Seasons were introduced to Destiny 2 in Year Two and the Forsaken Expansion. They were then revamped in Beyond Light with the inclusion of a Season Pass that allowed Guardians to grind out ranks and earn Season-exclusive gear and more. But each Season has had its highs and lows. Here’s how they stack up against one another.

13. Season of the Worthy

Season of the Worthy, despite being focused around the Warmind Rasputin tracking the Darkness’ advance into the solar system was the slowest and least pleasant Season thus far. An overly complicated activity, a bugged turn-in point in the EDZ, and a live event that took way too long for what it was led this to be more of a Season of Disappointment.

12. Season of the Outlaw

Season of the Outlaw was actually the base game for the Forsaken Expansion. As such, nothing about it is really unique like the other Seasons. Had Season of the Worthy not been so disastrously bad, Season of the Outlaw would have won last place on a technicality.

11. Season of the Hunt

Season of the Hunt occurred simultaneously with the release of Beyond Light. In his first appearance as a Guardian, Crow guided Guardians while under the employ of Spider. Guardians were tasked with rebuilding the Cryptolith Lure and hunting Xivu Arath’s forces. Unfortunately, this Season was overshadowed by the main Expansion.

10. Season of the Undying

Season of the Undying turned Seasons into much more as Season Passes were introduced. Guardians were forced to separate Shadowkeep’s content from Season of the Undying. Not fitting in very well with the haunted Moon theme were ancient and leafy Vex. While the new activity was enjoyable the first few times, Guardians quickly realized what a slog it would actually be.

9. Season of the Drifter (Joker’s Wild)

Season of the Drifter saw the evolution of Gambit into Gambit Prime. Unique roles were added and the Reckoning lived up to its name. What ultimately proved to be a failed experiment showed that Bungie was at least willing to try new things.

8. Season of the Forge

Season of the Forge brought forth beloved Exo Ada-1 and her Black Armory. Guardians were thrust into an enjoyable Seasonal Event that acted like a more refined version of Mars’ Escalation Protocol. A bevy of themed weapons and armor were added to the loot pool and players have been begging for their return since the Sunsetting debacle.

7. Season of the Chosen

In a move that many didn’t see coming, Bungie began to form uneasy alliances between the Vanguard and one of humanity’s most fiercely contested enemies, the Cabal. Serving under Empress Caiatl, the Cabal were poised to subjugate the Vanguard until Zavala refused to bend the knee. This led to Guardians taking up the hammer to prove our worth.

6. Season of the Splicer

Season of the Splicer picked up on Season of the Chosen’s beat and saw the Vanguard form another unlikely alliance with the Eliksni of House Light. In a heavily synth-wave inspired Season, Guardians were thrust into the collective mind of the Vex to thwart another of their dastardly schemes. The narrative beats saw a collective healing between foes as the Eliksni and humanity came together.

5. Season of Arrivals

The Darkness has arrived and it wishes to place a collect call to the Guardian. Acting as interpreter, Eris Morn guides Guardians through the Interference weekly mission and Contact Public Event. This Season was the shot in the arm for Destiny that kicked the battle of Light against Dark into high gear.

4. Season of Dawn

What is a Guardian to do when their best friend and a warrior of legend met with an untimely end? Why, travel back in time and find them of course! Is it a bad thing that the Guardian saw their own grave in the myriad timelines? Who knows? This Season had Guardians working together to solve a rather involved puzzle and was truly one of those “you had to be there” moments.

3. Season of Opulence

Emperor Calus has invited Guardians aboard his ship, the Leviathan. He wishes to test their mettle and make them an operative. The Menagerie was a matchmade dungeon with all manner of activities that allowed Guardians to chase specific pieces of loot. Of everything that was whisked away to the Destiny Content Vault, this was by far the most egregious removal.

2. Season of the Risen

Season of the Risen picks up a few missions into The Witch Queen expansion. Guardians must work with their new Cabal allies to find out what the Lucent Brood are up to. The story-telling remains top-notch as the fates of several important NPCs are forever changed.

1. Season of the Lost

Season of the Lost set up the events of Destiny 2’s best expansion, The Witch Queen. After the shocking revelation that Osiris had been impersonated by Savathun this entire time, and Guardians were actively working with the Queen of the Reef to purge the Hive Queen’s worm, suffice to say it’s going to be hard for Bungie to top this one.
