DC FanDome gave fans a plethora of trailers to get excited about. But The Batman was likely the most talked-about due to its gloomy tone and the caliber of the cast. Now, star Jeffrey Wright has made the wait for the DC film a little more unbearable. Wright, who will play James Gordon in the movie, recently appeared on The Jess Cagle Show for SiriusXM. He spoke about what sets this movie apart from other superhero movies.
Wright then stated that the detective work in The Batman is an exploration of Gotham. But grounded in realism, Gotham can seem like any American metropolis, such as New York City.
Speaking of detective work, The Batman will focus more heavily on that particular set of skills of the hero. And Wright praised it for that fact. Most live-action adaptations have focused on his skills in combat as well as his arsenal of gadgets and weapons. But Wright says the script is “beholden to this idea that Batman is the world’s greatest detective.”. According to Wright, this will be a film unlike any other superhero movie as well as any other Batman movie.
Directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson in the main role. In addition to Wright as Gordon, it also stars Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as The Riddler, Colin Farrell as The Penguin, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Andy Serkis as Alfred, and Eternals star Barry Keoghan as GCPD Officer Stanley Merkel. It releases in 2021. There is also a prequel TV series focusing on the GCPD in development for HBO Max.
