The Batman 2 Announcement and Details

Warner Bros. Pictures Group chairman Toby Emmerich officially announced the development of The Batman 2 at CinemaCon 2022. Nothing further has been revealed regarding the sequel’s potential pilot or release window.

The Batman sees Bruce Wayne take on the Riddler, played by Paul Dano, a sadistic serial killer who begins murdering key political figures in Gotham to expose a larger conspiracy. The Batman investigates the city’s hidden corruption while also trying to uncover the Riddler’s true identity. Zoe Kravitz, Colin Farrell (the Penguin), Jeffrey Wright, and Andy Serkis also star. The Batman 2 will likely follow up directly from the Ridder’s arrest and defeat and possibly feature Barry Keoghan Joker, teased at the film’s end.

In addition to The Batman sequel, HBO Max has also announced a spinoff series centering around Collin Farrell’s Penguin, which is currently in the works as well. Matt Reeves himself took the stage during CinemaCon briefly to speak to the room of exhibitors.

“Thank you all for your tremendous support for The Batman. We couldn’t have gotten here without the faith and enthusiasm of all your teams around the world. I’m excited to jump back into this world for the next chapter”, he said.

The Batman, released in early March of this year, has achieved large critical and box office success and, thus far, is the highest-grossing film of 2022 with a total worldwide take of $759 million. The Batman was officially added to HBO Max earlier this month and is still currently available to stream on the platform.
