The Ascent just released the other day, letting players finally experience its cyberpunk world in the same style as games like Diablo. With high critical acclaim, it’s clear there’s a lot to love, and that it’s another solid Game Pass release for Microsoft. That’s not even mentioning its publisher Curve Digital, who’s seen their largest launch weekend for a game yet. All around there are great things to be said, though some issues have unfortunately plagued certain players. If you’re one of these players, no need to worry. In this guide, we’ll tell you about some common bugs with The Ascent and how to fix them!
How to Fix Common Bugs With The Ascent
First Person Glitch
When leaving a cutscene in The Ascent, you may find yourself stuck in a first-person mode. While this would traditionally be quite cool, the first-person mode is quite buggy and doesn’t work as well as one would hope. To fix this issue, most have gone to the main menu and back into the game, or to potentially restart the game entirely.
Invisible Player Glitch
One of the more common bugs in The Ascent (even more common than the one listed above) is when leaving a cutscene, you may find your character completely invisible. If this is the case, using either of the above methods will fix the issue in most cases.
Can’t Join Other Players
One of the most common of all is being unable to join your friends for co-op sessions in The Ascent. If you’re looking to fix this, there are a few options you can try. Of course, there’s the easiest in that you restart the game. If that doesn’t result in much luck though, restarting your console/PC may prove better than that. And if all else fails, you may be stuck unfortunately restarting the entire game. It’s not ideal, but you, unfortunately, don’t have many options.
Game Stuttering Issues
While mainly relegated to PC, some common bugs for The Ascent include various stutters and performance drops during gameplay. To fix this can be a bit tricky. First of all, you want to type “Exploit protection” in your Windows 10 search bar and click the first option. Then, select “Program settings” and click on “Add program to customize”. The next step will be platform dependent, but you’ll want to type in the following:
- Steam: TheAscent-Win64-Shipping.exe
- Xbox Game Pass: TheAscent-WinGDK-Shipping.exe
Then, once presented with a set of options, scroll down to “Control flow guard (CFG)”, click “Override system settings” and set this to Off.
The Ascent is available on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
