CW finally revealed the synopsis for The 4400 reboot. The new iteration of The 4400 for CW is a reboot of the television series that aired on USA from 2004 – 2007. The 4400 was in the vein of the popular show Lost. For instance, it featured strangers brought together by unusual circumstances. The USA show revolved around the reappearance of 4,400 people that had gone missing for the past fifty years. The missing started exhibited supernatural abilities after they returned. This remained a mystery for most of the show.
The 4400 capitalized on mystery shows of the same ilk. The show starred Joel Gretsch who cropped up in shows like The Vampire Diaries and Stephen Spielberg‘s miniseries Taken. More notably, The 4400 also marked as one of Mahershala Ali’s early roles. The synopsis for CW’s The 4400 follows relatively the same plot as follows:
“Last night, inexplicably, [The 4400] were all returned in an instant to Detroit having not aged a day and with no memory of what happened to them,” CW’s synopsis reads.
Reboots On The CW
The 4400 is not the first show to have a reboot on the CW. The network is popular among teens and young adults. In recent history, the network has already rebooted many fan favorites. A reboot of Roswell came out in 2019. This series found an interesting spin on the 1999 series. Even more notable is the recent reboot of Charmed. Charmed originally aired on the WB in 1998. The new iteration makes the familiar story of witches more diverse.
The 4400 is an interesting choice for the CW. The original series aired on USA. While there were teens in the cast, most of the story arcs had adult themes. CW updates The 4400 as well. The selection of people returned is not random. Instead, the 4,400 missing people are taken from marginalized groups. The 4400‘s first episode is titled ‘The Past Is Prologue’ and will air on October 25 on The CW.
